Sustainable Farming

"Our arable farm policy is purely based upon sustainable farming"

Wright's Agriculture are passionate about becoming involved with stewardship agreements. We have been involved with the implementation of many Mid-Tier schemes; wild bird mixture, pollen and nectar mixtures and wide margins form the majority of the cover area. This will improve the margin of land that we currently farm due to predominantly less productive areas being entered into the scheme. We are currently looking forward to watching these areas grow and seeing the environmental benefits.

Our Contribution to Sustainable Agriculture

Examples of implementation techniques
  • Early adopter of min-till crop establishment
  • 12m controlled traffic farming by 2020
  • 20,000 Tonnes of organic manure applied annually
  • Embracing environmental schemes and implementation
  • Cover crops and 'Project sheep'
'Project Sheep'
In 2018-19, we undertook an experiment to see what the benefits of cover crops grazed by sheep are. 100 hectares of budget cover crops were sown and then grazed off by the sheep. If the harvest results for the subsequent spring barley crop are successful, we will plant more cover crops later this year.
